Planet Aquariums in Dallas probably has a few fans of their acrylic PVC bottom / glass tanks - you don't have to worry about live rock coming down and you can drill it. This sample at Reef-A-Palooza had starphire glass and a nice cabinet by Coastal Aquarium Designs. (They were sweet!) You can see them at The Aquatic Experience in Chicago in a couple weeks.

Indeed. I think the first tank I saw like this was a Reef Frenzy 300 gallon at MACNA a couple years back.
I hope this is becoming a trend. :)

    PVC bottom, rather. ;)

Can save quite a bit of weight on larger tanks.

    Thank you sir. ;)

I am curious if you save money as well this way? Or do you pay a price for 'custom?'

Will silicone hold? I know you cant use silicone on acrylic. So I wonder what they use to bond the two.

A PVC bottom itself isn't a new concept; LeeMar, DSA, AGE, etc have all done this in the past.

The new concept here is how they've notched the PVC to achieve a stronger adherence (and more area to do it on) with the silicone.

Not sure what it typically does to price.

That would be very cool. They can make the back in black PVC and the bottom and the 3 view able sides outta glass. With a ghost overflow built in. I'm bout that.

Sweet idea. Never seen one before. I love the idea of easy closed loop systems on a glass tank.... not to mention weight savings.
